Welcome to my website! My name is Katie and I am an Assistant Professor conducting research in the area of Exercise and Health Psychology. Originally from a small town east of Ottawa Ontario, I completed my undergraduate and masters training at Brock University in St. Catharines Ontario.  Following that, I undertook my doctoral research at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver British Columbia. I returned to the Ottawa area to complete a post-doctoral fellowship. Following my post-doctoral fellowship, I was a Junior Researcher and Scientist with the Healthy Active Living and Obesity Research Group at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute.  Currently, I'm an Assistant Professor at Carleton University in Ottawa. I will be using this website to post new papers, information for participants including links to ongoing studies and research summaries, and information for the public about our research findings. I also intend to post syntax and any supplemental material that accompanies publications. RESEARCH INTERESTS

Dr. Gunnell examines the psychological antecedents of behaviours and psychological health in various populations including children and youth, adults, and people diagnosed with osteoporosis. Specific interests include:

  • Psychological health (e.g., hedonic and eudaimonic well-being; symptoms of mental disorders)
  • Behaviours (e.g., physical activity, screen time, and sedentary time)
  • Correlates and Mechanisms (e.g., psychological need satisfaction and frustration, motivational regulations and goal contents)
  • Disentangling complex reciprocal relationships between behaviours and psychological variables using longitudinal research designs
  • Psychometrics
